Kennedy Approach is (or was) an ATC simulation game that first appeared on the C64 back in the eighties. It was the first game to use a speech engine (computer generated voice) which was quite an achievement for a 64kb game. It was probably the first ever realtime strategy game (RTS).
The game was also available on the Atari home computer and later on the Amiga. I've been waiting for a remake that never came. And eventually, I just made it myself.
And that's what these pages are about: the Kennedy Approach remake for (windows) pc.
There are a lot of simular games (see links), however my remake looks the same, hears the same and plays the same as the original C64 version.
If you're an Atari fan, you probably want the Atari colors, which is possible by changing the color scheme found in the ini file created by Kennedy Approach. There is a (default) C64 scheme (obviously!) and an Atari scheme.
This version also runs on Windows 2000 and Windows 98. More...
2008-09-19
As you might have seen I added some personal experiences with the Microsoft games. Today, I also added download links to DOS versions of the games.
Also, a big welcome to Max Maass. He is the first Beta tester for Red Storm Rising. This nice german guy will probably also do some translation
And finally, as it looks right now, there will be a graphical update for Kennedy Approach. StickBender from the Gotbush forums has opted to make some nicer aircraft images!
2008-09-13 The Microprose games
There are quite a lot websites that provide information about old C64, Atari, Amiga and DOS games. However, I haven't found a site specifically for old microprose games. Though there are plenty of sites about the Sid Meier games (Civilisation, Railroad tycoon and so on), none so far that that address the 'other' microprose games and by that I mean the more military oriented ones.
So, since most of the games I did own and play, I thought I'ld give it a start. Currently I've only uploaded some screenshots, but I will be adding more information as time progresses. Including downloads to play the game yourself.
Yes, Kennedy Approach has been downloaded over two thousand times now, from three sites combined. Not much compared to current games, but nonetheless, I'm having a beer. Cheers.!
2008-09-05 Red Storm Rising Video
I put a short video of my Red Storm Rising remake on YouTube. Still under development. Watch it here. Have fun.
Interesting !
I just discovered that Microprose actually has a site, bit late since it seems to have been there since late 2007. Anyways, on that site it says:
Software development has also begun and an all new line of strategic simulations are on the horizon in the same spirit of quality and exciting gameplay that players expect from Microprose.
Can we expect remakes of classics like Silent Service, Strike Eagle, Red Storm Rising? I don't know, but I sure hope so !
This site requires java script to work, if it doesn't, click here to go to the forums front page which has an alternate menu.
